Exam-prep application for tablets
Children prepare for entrance exams from paper workbooks that never tell them what they are getting wrong. We built a tablet web app that first finds out where the child stands and then guides them by their mistakes.

- In short
- The app starts with an 8-part placement test in Czech and maths that estimates the score and builds a study plan.
- Pen input on the tablet, read-aloud, hints and practice driven by mistakes bring training close to the real exam.
- Gamification (levels, XP, daily streaks, missions, badges) rewards progress, not time in the app; dark patterns and pay-to-win were left out.
What the app does
- An eight-part placement test estimates the score and builds a plan of what to practise.
- Tasks are solved with a pen directly on the tablet, like on paper at the exam. Instructions can be read aloud.
- Practice is driven by mistakes: what the child struggles with comes up more often.
- The in-task helper never gives the answer; it recalls the rule and guides with questions. Replies are verified.
- Parents see progress and weak spots, not just time spent in the app.
Gamification done right
Levels, experience points, daily streaks, missions and badges reward progress. We left out everything that rewards mere time in the app or pushes for payment: no timers, no random rewards, no pay-to-win. It is a lesson for internal tools too: motivation works when it measures what matters.
Technology
A React web application optimised for tablets, with handwriting recognition, offline mode for tasks and an admin for content creation. It runs on our own hosting through Indepanel.
