Indepanel: managing websites instead of Plesk
Plesk can do everything, which is exactly why every site in it is configured differently. We manage dozens of client websites and needed the opposite: one flow from domain setup to monitoring that is the same every time. That is how Indepanel came about.

- In short
- Replaces paid Plesk. Built in Node.js, focused on automating domain management, client websites, their deployment from development and monitoring.
- A clear flow: domain setup, mail and DNS, Git deploy, maintenance, health and speed checks. No complicated configuration, no confusing panels.
- Deploys go into a separate release folder and switch only after a health check; on failure the previous release comes back. Handles Node.js and PHP sites and dockerised apps.
Why not Plesk
Plesk is paid and universal. That is fine for one site and a problem for dozens: each one is configured slightly differently, deploys are manual and errors are reported by the client. Indepanel has a single purpose: to make managing client websites automated and identical every time. It has clear rules and behaviour, one flow from domain setup to monitoring instead of hundreds of options.
One flow from domain to monitoring
- Domain setup. A site is created with one form including the system user, a Let's Encrypt certificate and a DNS check. The panel tells you what is missing in DNS and can add the records to Cloudflare.
- Mail. Mailboxes, aliases and forwarding, SPF and DMARC. The password is shown once and never stored in readable form.
- Deploy from development. A site has a repository, a branch and build commands. A push to GitHub deploys into a new release folder; traffic switches only after a successful health check, otherwise the previous release keeps running. Rollback to any stored release is one button, staging is created from the same repository.
- Maintenance and monitoring. Site health check: availability, DNS, certificate, TLS, SEO basics, response time and app status. Traffic and errors from server logs, Google PageSpeed with recommendations and a “Speed Kit” that enables proven Cloudflare settings.
- Overall management. Databases, full-domain backups with restore, environment variables, memory and CPU limits, migration of sites from Plesk including files, databases and mail.
Technology
Node.js on top of Virtualmin and nginx. Node.js sites run as systemd services behind a proxy, PHP via php-fpm, dockerised apps are deployed to the server through the same flow. Secrets live in environment variables in the panel, never in the repository. Data and uploads sit outside the release folder, so a deploy cannot delete them. The panel itself listens only on a local address; only the signed webhook is reachable from the internet.
